Hatton's work is predominantly concerned with precision and materiality. His abstract compositions yield a singular sense of visual pleasure for the viewer, a notion derived from the artist's continuous journey in the search for perfection. After the tragic loss of his son, Hatton turned his life to art as a way to reconnect and echo the passion with which his son lived his life. He signs every painting as A+A to mark the constant presence of his son through his creative journey.

The shapes, colours, and shades are used to change the way the two-dimensional shapes appear, giving his paintings a three-dimensional quality. They have a sculptural presence in the space due to the prominent self-built aluminium canvases and precise combination of industrial materials including pearlescent, xyrallic, gold leaf and candy paints.
